The design behind Harley-Davidson's two-cylinder V-twin engine has a history that extends all the way back to 1889, when the first V-twin engine was built. Harley-Davidson didn't design the original V-twin engine, but they quickly began working with their own similar build. While many other motorcycle manufacturers have experimented with V-twin engines, no other company has put them to the test quite like Harley-Davidson. With over 100 years of experience in building V-twin engines, Harley-Davidson has become synonymous with the two-cylinder design. At the turn of the millennium, Harley-Davidson designed the Twin Cam 88 and Twin Cam 88B, which was quickly followed by the Twin Cam 96, the engine used on almost all of their new motorcycles alongside the Revolution engine model.
